We Bought A House!

After two years of travelling full-time, Paul and I craved a home of our own where we could display our favourite travel souvenirs and entertain. It took two years of saving, house hunting and compromise – but at the end of November 2018 we finally took possession of our first house!

The house is located in south Burlington, not far from the lake – so we can enjoy that same waterfront lifestyle we got accustom to in Barcelona and Sydney. With four bedrooms and a pool, it’s the perfect sized home to entertain. The house was built in 1971, and still features many of the original elements – which means we have a lot of work ahead of us.

If you’ve been following along on Insta Stories, you would have seen that we’ve already completed some of our initial renovations. Right before Christmas we were able to move into our house, but we still have plenty of work to do (including renovating the kitchen, bathroom and basement). I plan on sharing room reveals as we finish each part of the house, but today I wanted to share some of the before pictures with you! It’s pretty crazy how only three weeks of renovations has transformed this house so far, and I can’t wait to see what it looks like a year from now.

We Bought A House! The before pictures…

Our entry, with stairs up to the living room. The carpet has been removed, and we are replacing the old railing with a wooden one.
Here’s a look at our living room! It’s since been painted the most gorgeous grey colour, which I can’t wait to share soon.
Another look of our living room, with the dining area on the far left.
The kitchen is pretty old, with a less-than-ideal layout. We’re completely gutting this area in the spring!
This hallway down to the bedrooms needs a bit of love, but otherwise it’s a blank canvas!
How scary does this master bedroom look? LOL. This photo was taken during the wallpaper removal.
This is our smallest bedroom, and with tiny closets in every room it only made sense to convert this bedroom into a walk-in closet! This project is coming along nicely so far.
Renovating this house has been a ton of work so far – but it’s so rewarding to see it come together!
