Hotel Review: The Palm at Playa

For the last stop on our honeymoon, we chose to spend a few nights in Playa Del Carmen at The Palm At Playa. We had visited Playa Del Carmen briefly back in 2012, and we were excited to return for some shopping, great food and some relaxation before heading back to Toronto. The Palm At Playa did not disappoint, which is why I’m so excited to share this review today! Keep reading to discover this incredible hotel….

The Palm At Playa is located on 10th street, between 5th Avenue and 10th Avenue. It is quite possible the most conveniently located hotel in all of Playa Del Carmen! We were only steps away from 5th Avenue, and perfectly situated between the “old” section of 5th Avenue and the newer area. Two of the restaurants we were planning to eat at were less than 60 metres away! And, to top it off, the fact that we were just off of 5th Avenue meant that our hotel was bogged down with pedestrian traffic right in front of the entrance. Quite literally, it was the perfect location for exploring Playa Del Carmen.

Since we had spent plenty of time at beaches before our arrival, we chose not to go to the beach in Playa Del Carmen. However, the beach was a very short walk from the hotel as well.

We stayed in a One Bedroom Suite that had a spacious bedroom, ensuite bathroom, living room, wet bar and balcony. After travelling for almost two weeks, it was so nice to be able to spread out and have lots of space! The wet bar was incredibly handy too – because we were able to sit down and eat all of the leftover food we brought back from a local taco shop. The room felt very luxurious, and the air conditioning worked perfectly (which is kinda important for a Canadian when it’s 34 degrees out!). Overall, the room felt very fresh and clean – which was very inviting.

The bathroom was modern and clean – with great water pressure, lots of storage space and plenty of towels. The bathroom also came with slipped and bathrobes that we could use during our stay, which added to the luxurious feeling of the room. As I’ve said a hundred times before, L’Occitane is my favourite brand of hotel bathroom amenities! So, you can imagine how happy I was to see their products in our bathroom!

The highlight of the hotel (other than the location) is definitely the rooftop! With sweeping views of Playa Del Carmen and the ocean, the rooftop is where we spent most of our time. There was a huge amount of seating areas and sun loungers, and a hot tub with perfect views. The pool was also very unique, with a hammock over the water and three day beds within the pool. The service at the rooftop bar was amazing, so once we found the perfect place to suntan we stayed put for most of the day! I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day in Playa Del Carmen, before heading out for some evening shopping and dinner.

The services at The Palm At Playa weren’t lacking either! Every time we walked into the hotel, we were greeted by name from the smiling staff. Inside the room, we were given a beach bag to use for our stay that came with two beach towels. Every evening we had turndown service that included some sweet treats too! It’s the small attention to detail that solidifies this hotel as a luxury hot spot.
