Hotel Review: Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre

We were given a warm welcome to Amsterdam when we arrived at the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre. The staff greeted us right away and quickly took our heavy suitcases off our hands. We were checked in to our room and given a quick explanation of the hotel’s amenities. I also really appreciated how each staff member we interacted with asked if it was our first time to Amsterdam, and were quick to offer recommendation for places we should visit during our stay. This sincere, warm welcome was an excellent indication of the experience we were about to have at Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre!

We stayed in an Executive City View room on the 19th floor. We had a luxurious king sized bed, seating area, desk and a spacious closet area. The room felt incredibly bright, and it was more than enough room for two people. Our room also came with a flatscreen TV and complementary wi-fi… perfect for late night movie watching when jet lag kicked in! Of course, we were also treated to a great selection of chocolate in the room – because this is a Movenpick hotel after all! One of the perks of being in an Executive room is access to the Executive Lounge. We enjoyed breakfast in a private dining area, as well as complimentary happy hour from 5pm – 7pm each night.

The ensuite bathroom was spacious and well-lit, and included a bathtub, vanity mirror and plenty of counter space. The bathroom came stocked with ECO by Green Culture bathroom products that smelt divine! After a long overnight flight, it was such a treat to have a shower with such luxurious bathroom products. The big fluffy towels (which were replenished daily), and the wonderful hotel bathrobes were also a nice touch.

One of the best features of our room was the beautiful view of the river and the city centre! As you can see from the picture below, the view was enjoyed during rain and shine. Another perk of being located on the 19th was the higher vantage point. Seeing all the rooftops across Amsterdam was a great sight to wake up to each morning. Both mornings at this hotel I enjoyed making myself a Nespresso coffee and watching the busy city as I slowly woke up! The hotel also has a restaurant for lunch and dinner, as well as room service. It also came to no surprise to us that there was an ice cream parlour on-site serving Movenpick ice cream!

Our room came with a complimentary mini bar and Nespresso machine, as well as a buffet breakfast. The breakfast was an excellent selection of eggs, breads, meats, cheese and pastries – to name a few! We were impressed with the quality of the food, and especially enjoyed all of the local cheeses. Since we were staying on an Executive floor, we also had mimosas included in our breakfast and private dining area.

The location of this hotel is perfect! Directly across the street is a tram station that takes you to Central Station in less than 5 minutes. If you prefer to walk, it would talk you about 12 minutes. Next door to the hotel is a bike rental shop and the terminal for cruise ships. The convenient location is one of the main reasons I recommend this hotel!
