When it came time to book our first winter getaway since returning to Canada, there was no doubt that Craigleith Manor in Collingwood would be our first stop. Since opening on December 31st, 2014 they’ve seen a whirlwind of success, with nearly every weekend being booked solid. We had to see what all the fuss was about, and we just had to experience their legendary breakfast for ourselves.
Craigleith Manor is a modern bed & breakfast for adults-only, run by the ever-hospitable Guy and Craig. After completely renovating and re-decorating the manor, they opened it as a B&B for upscale travellers who flock to Collingwood for spa getaways and ski trips. When we first arrived we were greeted with hot teas (it is winter, after all!) and told to make ourselves comfortable in the living room. Who could say no to a space this inviting? An oversized couch, chic fireplace and a stack of the latest magazines had us kicking our feet up and entering that relaxing ‘vacay mode’ faster than you could say “Canadian Getaway”.
In true Ontario “cottage country” fashion, Craighleith Manor has a spacious outdoor deck behind the house, complete with Muskoka chairs. The snow dusted property and lush evergreen trees made this a picture-perfect scene, leading me to only imagine how stunning it would be in the summer. This outdoor space felt private and tranquil, and the crisp mountain air was a refreshing change from city life.
There are three stunning suites to choose from at Craigleith Manor, and we opted for the Mountain Suite with sweeping views of the ski hills and a private balcony. Our room was furnished with luxurious touches, like on-trend lampshades and a Vera Wang blanket. Every detail that went into this room was well thought out, with guest experience in mind and a very impressive eye for design. Our king-sized bed was so comfortable it had me fast asleep as soon as my head hit the 300-thread count designer pillowcase.
I knew we were in for a treat when we went downstairs for breakfast on our first morning, and Guy was wearing a professional chef’s jacket. It’s not everyday that your bed & breakfast host happens to be a trained chef, and it’s also not hard to see why past guests are constantly raving about the breakfasts at Craigleith Manor! You haven’t truly lived until you’ve sampled Guy’s eggs benedict, which rivalled any 5 star hotel breakfast I’ve ever had.
Collingwood is an outdoor playground for the adventurous, and Craigleith Manor serves as the perfect home base for all of your activities. The ski hills are close enough that you can see them from your bedroom windows, and sights like the Scenic Caves are just a short drive away. Best of all, the famous Georgian Trail runs directly behind the property. In the winter this trail is used for everything from snowshoeing to cross country skiing, but the less adventurous can utilize it for relaxing morning walks.
If the abundance of activities in the area has you feeling sore, fatigued or just plain exhausted than take advantage of Craigleith Manor’s spa package. We opted for this package during our stay and received two passes to the world-renowned Scandinave Spa. We loved the convenience of having our host take care of our spa appointments and passes, as it further enhanced our experience to not deal with any of that ourselves.
After a luxurious spa visit there’s nothing better than continuing those relaxing vibes in the comfort of Craigleith Manor. We totally zen’d out after our pampering and found quiet places around the property to sip tea and read. The sitting chair in our suite provided a beautiful view of the ski hills, while the reading nook on the main floor gave us the feeling of being in a winter wonderland thanks to an oversized window facing the backyard.
After a dream-worthy stay we can highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Collingwood or Blue Mountain – but don’t wait long! This property is on the rise, and the demand for rooms is increasing every week. The team at Kelly Ella Maz were welcomed to Craigleith Manor as guests, however our opinions remain our own.
