Part of our Christmas trip to Thailand involved a 6 night stay on Koh Samui, and only the best hotel would do – this meant a stay at Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa. The resort is located in the Mae Nam region of the island. This is the perfect location because the area is very quiet, yet you’re only a short drive from the tourist hub of Chaweng Beach.
When we arrived at Santiburi we were pampered right away. Cool towels, a welcome drink and attentive staff made the check-in process a breeze.
Most of the rooms at the resort are actually private villas, with the exception of the duplex suites that are best suited for families. Our villa was number 401, located close enough to the beach that I could hear the waves crashing at night.
Our villa had a separate living room and bedroom. The living room had a beautiful seating area, flatscreen TV, minibar and plenty of storage space. The area felt very comfortable, almost as if it was our home!
The separate bedroom had a very comfortable king sized bed, huge flatscreen TV and a large window overlooking the garden behind our villa. The bedroom felt like an oasis, the perfect place to relax after a long day at the beach!
The bedroom was even more comfortable after turn down service when our room attendant perfectly prepped our bed for sleep! I also thought the room was also well designed with plugs within arms reach of the beds and light controls for the entire villa right next to the headboard.
Our spacious bathroom was exactly the style of bathroom I’d like to have at home. Double sinks, walk-in closet and a separate shower and bathtub. The entire bathroom felt very luxurious, right down to the products. Custom made soaps, shampoos, etc. all smelt great and we were supplied with every amenity possible.
It wouldn’t be called a beach resort if it didn’t have an incredible beach, and the stretch of sand in front of Santiburi is one of the nicest on the island! Crystal clear waters, beautiful sand and wonderful views make this my favourite place at the resort.
For those who prefer to relax by the pool will not be disappointed. This is the largest pool I’ve ever seen at a hotel, and it’s stunning! There’s a pool bar nearby and a separate shallow pool for kids as well.
Santiburi has some pretty incredible services to compliment your day by the pool or on the beach. For starters, each villas comes with a beautiful beach bag for you to use during your stay. Inside the beach bag is also two pairs of rubber flip flops so you can keep your nice sandals free from sand!
When you arrive at either the beach or the pool an attendant will ask you where you want to lay and will set up each lounge chair with two towels (one to lay on, one to use to dry off after a swim). Attendants will also bring you bottles of waters and glasses throughout your time in the sun. Their attention to detail and friendly service is very impressive!
There are multiple on-site restaurants at the resort with breakfast being particularly amazing. A buffet of almost every breakfast dish imaginable leaves enough options to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters… and enough variety to eat a different breakfast every day!
Outside of the breakfast restaurant is a juice cart where you can order a freshly made juice. My two favourites were mango-banana and watermelon. The fruits are extremely fresh and taste fantastic so make sure you don’t miss out on this!
Unfortunately our first day at the resort was rainy, but luckily for us the spa had just enough time to squeeze us in for an hour long massage appointment. The spa is beautiful and the staff are very professional. Paul said his oil massage was the best he’s ever had, which is an impressive statement considering we visit at least two new spas per month!
I had my first ever Thai massage and it was unreal. For days afterwards my body felt totally relaxed. The spa also has an incredible four hour package that looked divine!
The resort also has a ton of daily activities, such as yoga classes and a daily soccer game between the guests and staff. We took advantage of their complimentary Muay Thai lessons – which is a famous type of fighting in Thailand. It was so much fun and a great workout as well.
