Hotel Review: The BelleRive Boutique Hotel

Luang Prabang is known for it’s beautiful colonial style hotels overlooking the Mekong River, but only one hotel comes stunning views with luxury amenities – The BelleRive Boutique Hotel. We stayed at The BelleRive after finishing a two day cruise from Thailand.

We arrived late afternoon feeling hot and tired but that all changed when we were greeted by the friendly staff at The BelleRive! After a quick check-in they ushered us to the outdoor terrace where we enjoyed complimentary beer and snacks while the porters took our luggage to our room. What a fantastic welcome!

We stayed in a Deluxe Suite on the second floor of the Frangipani building. The hotel has 13 rooms in total, spread out between three separate building all facing the Mekong River. Our suite was very spacious, with a king sized bed and separate seating room. I also had a desk are near windows overlooking the river that made for the perfect work area.

The bathroom was equally as beautiful and spacious with a large shower and a gorgeous vanity and sink. There was also a separate toilet room and large wardrobe. Our toiletries, water and towels were refreshed daily and the comfy slippers and bathrobes were very luxurious!

The on-site restaurant served breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of seating sections. There was dinning inside the lobby, outside on the sidewalk and across the street on a terrace overlooking the river. We ate a number of meals outside on the terrace and loved watching the local boats drive by. Breakfast was particularly good at The BelleRive! They had a huge selection of breads from a local French bakery, homemade jams, fresh fruit and larger meals such as eggs or pancakes. There was really something for everyone on their menu.

The BelleRive has some wonderful services included at their property – including the free use of bicycles. Bicycles are the best way to get around Luang Prabang, and having these available free of charge was a great bonus. We used to bikes to explore the city or to get to restaurants – much better than haggling prices with a tuk tuk driver!

It’s the little things that count at boutique hotels, and The BelleRive had plenty of small touches to ensure a pleasant stay. Free WiFi that worked well in all areas of the hotel was a surprising treat for Laos, and the complimentary mini bar and banana chips that were refreshed daily was also appreciated.

One of the most unique services available at this property is the complimentary sunset cruise. At 4:30pm we boarded a local-style long boat with a few other guests. Light snacks, wine and beer were served during this 30 minute cruise and we had front row seats to a beautiful sunset! We filmed a video during this cruise that you can check out below.
