Set in the heart of Bangkok, just beside one of the river banks, is a beautiful boutique hotel called Villa Phra Sumen. From the street it looks like any other hotel, but once you pass through the security check and through the gated door you enter an urban paradise in the middle of Thailand’s capital city.
We stayed in a Standard Street View room with the most beautiful decor. This room is the definition of chic: a king sized bed with high quality bedding, a few pieces of antique furniture, Instagram-worthy light fixtures and wall accents made of reclaimed wood.
The exposed brick wall on one side of the room and the concrete floors further added to this look. This room felt modern, inviting and comfortable. Best of all, the A/C worked perfectly and the mini bar came stocked with cold beer and water – much needed after long days in the sun!
The bathroom design was just as impressive, with a tiled shower floor with pops of colour and a beautiful wood basin. I loved the bathroom products, and appreciated that the were re-stocked daily.
Our room also came with a balcony facing the street. It was a nice place to sit and take it the busy street below and at night one evening we even sat on the balcony to watch nearby fireworks!
Breakfast was served up each morning in a beautiful room on the ground floor with access to a patio. There were multiple food options; including bacon & eggs, asian dishes, pancakes and cereals. With 5 nights at Villa Phra Sumen we tried almost everything on the menu and enjoyed everything. Breakfast also includes a buffet of fresh fruits, salad, teas and coffee.
I loved how fast the service was and loved filling up on fresh Thai fruits every morning! It was a great start to a long day of sightseeing.
One thing I also need to mention about this hotel is its amazing location. We were only a 9 minute walk from the famous Khao San Road. Close enough to enjoy it, but far enough away that we didn’t have to deal with the noise and commotion that comes with it. Anywhere else we wanted to go was a short taxi ride away. I don’t think we ever paid more than $4 CAD to get anywhere in the city from the hotel.
