Snorkelling the Gili Islands was my number one must-do activity! There was no way I was visiting this area of the world without getting out into the water and exploring the wildlife below the surface.
It ended up being a ton of fun and it was so easy to book. For 100,000 RP per person (about $10 Canadian) we booked a half day boat trip that included snorkelling at each of the three islands, a stop for lunch and visiting the turtle sanctuary on Gili Meno.
These tours can be purchased at any tour stand and they’re all the same so don’t worry about who you buy it from. The same tours leave from each of the islands at various times in the morning. We happen to take ours from Gili Air.
We left at about 9:30am and our first stop was Gili Meno which is an area known for turtles. We saw tons of turtles here and they were all very active and fun to photograph! From here we went to Gili Trawangan which was pretty but probably the least exciting stop of the day.
Next we went back to a different side of Gili Meno to snorkel the blue coral which was beautiful. We saw more turtles here and a lot of colourful fish. After we were done at the blue coral we stopped on Gili Meno for lunch at Susak Cafe. The food was delicious, the fresh juices were tasty and the prices were great. Best of all we had a great view of the beach.
After lunch we walked across Gili Meno and visited the turtle sanctuary. Since Gili Meno is the only island were not staying overnight at I really enjoyed our hour and a half on the island, sampling one restaurant and walking around a lot. It was a great way to see the island! The turtle sanctuary was pretty cool and the baby turtles were so cute.
After Gili Meno we hoped back on the boat and finished our tour with one last snorkel sight at Gili Air. This site also had a ton of fish! Our tour ended back on Gili Air around 3pm.
For $10 and 5.5 hours of fun I thought this was an amazing deal. I loved that it finished by 3pm so it still left us the afternoon to relax at our hotel!
