For such a small island it’s actually pretty incredible how diverse each city in Bali is. You’ve seen my pics, you’ve fallen in love with Bali, and now you’re ready to visit too! But, bow you’re asking “where should we go??”. To help you out I thought I’d write a quick article explaining where to go in Bali – based on your travel style!
If you’ve only got a week or two to visit Bali you can’t see it all, and you really shouldn’t try to either. I’d recommend picking just a couple of cities because Bali is meant to be enjoyed at a slower pace – it’s island life after all!
Keep in mind that Bali is a very small island. You can drive from Seminyak to Ubud in about 70-80 minutes…. so even if you don’t stay in Ubud overnight it is totally possible to visit as a day trip! The same goes for every city on this list.
Best for Parties – Kuta
Kuta is a little bit tacky, backpacker-friendly and easy on the wallet. If you’re in your early twenties and want to party with your friends (both new and old!) then Kuta is definitely the area for you. If the thought of drunk 21 year olds roaming the streets is your worst nightmare avoid this area. Personally, Kuta doesn’t do anything for me – it’s my least favourite place in Bali.
Best for Trendy Beach Clubs & Restaurants – Seminyak
Seminyak is a bit touristy and it seemed to be especially popular with Australians. Thanks to the Australian influence there’s a huge selection of world-class restaurants and beach clubs in Seminyak that are a bit more upper class than other parts of Bali. If you want to be seen at the hottest spots in Bali head to Seminyak!
Best for Yoga, Meditation & Retreats – Ubud
Ubud is a place of healing, and for me, it was a place of relaxation. Ubud is good for the soul and the abundance of yoga classes, temples and organic restaurants makes this a destination that’s good for the body too!
Best for Honeymooners & Couples – Jimbaran/ Uluwatu
Amazing views, some of the best sunsets in the world and luxury hotels available at a wide range of budgets. If you’re travelling with a lover there’s no where better on the island than Jimbaran or Uluwatu!
Best for Families – Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is home to dozens of resorts. Some of these resorts are so big you probably wouldn’t even leave the resort grounds during your stay. If you’re travelling as a family and want the comforts of having everything you need within a resort to minimize tricky transportation than Nusa Dua is a great choice. This area also has a huge selection of water sports.
Best for Beaches – Sanur
Gorgeous beaches and plenty of hotels that line the coastline makes Sanur the perfect spot for any beach lover! What I enjoyed most about Sanur was the great selection of bars and restaurants on the beach as well. In Sanur it would be very possible to eat every meal with your toes in the sand.
