I’ve used L’Occitane products for as long as I can remember. No matter where I am in the world you’ll always find one of their ionic hand creams in my purse! So, when I found out there was a L’Occitane spa in Ubud I just had to visit.
Mango Tree Spa by L’Occitane is an exquisite blend of the french heritage of L’Occitane and the Balinese style of the Ubud location. There was a balance between the jungle setting and the french product that could only be accomplished by such a stylish brand.
Mango Tree Spa by L’Occitane is located inside the Kupu Kupu Barong Villas, about a 10 minute drive from Ubud Centre. The property is set high on a hill overlooking the valley below and the Ayung River.
The hotel has a beautiful restaurant and a stunning table for two floating in the middle of an infinity pool – the perfect spot for lunch before or after your spa treatments!
When we arrived at the spa we were greeted by the receptionist who already knew us by name. That attention to detail was a wonderful inclination of what we could expect for the rest of the day! We were seated in the waiting room and given a short form to fill out, along with cool towels and delicious mango juice.
While we waited for our therapists we browsed the shop, which was stocked with the entire L’Occitane range and was the same size as most L’Occitane shops. Of course we couldn’t resist stocking up on our favourite products!
When it was time for our spa treatments to begin we were escorted out of the spa and towards the hotel. Mango Tree Spa has a number of different treatment rooms all throughout the resort, each with a different style. It was a short, but beautiful, walk down a stair case with views of the valley.
Our treatment room was one of their Tree Spa rooms, which literally felt like a tree house! It was perched on the cliff with stunning views of the valley and the Ayung River. This room was ideal for couples and it had two massage beds, an area for foot treatments and a washroom/ changing room.
The changing room had hangers for our clothes, a jewellery box or me to store my bracelets and plenty of space to store my purse and camera gear. We slipped into our robes and slippers and were ready to start our pampering!
We booked the spa’s signature massage, the “Shea Nurturing Massage”, which is a 90 minute massage. It started with a warm foot bath and massage. While my therapist massaged my feet I couldn’t help but stare out in the distance at the stunning view and wonder, “Is this place real?”.
Next we moved to the massage beds and started our full-body massages. What makes this signature massage so unique is that it’s a combination of different types of massages. The massage started with a light, gentle massages using long strokes to warm up my body. As expected, they used L’Occitane’s Creme Ultra Riche body lotion along with massage oil for a ultra luxe concoction!
The massage then moved into a deep tissue massage where the therapist used a combination of her elbows and her forearms to firmly massage my tight muscles. Once all of my knots were gone she moved onto a hot stone massage that really loosened up my neck and shoulders. She then finished up with a relaxing massage on my entire body. Absolute bliss!
When my 90 minutes of pampering were up I felt amazing. So relaxed, and ready to take on the rest of my day. I looked over at Paul who looked equally as blissed with a huge smile on his face! We both agreed that it was one of the best spa experiences we’ve had. We absolutely loved that the natural sounds of the Ayung River and chirping birds replaced the usual spa music you hear – that was really unique for us and very fitting for the location.
We chose not to shower as we both wanted to leave the nourishing shea butter on our skin, but I do need to mention that they have a beautiful shower in the treetop treatment room fully stocked with L’Occitane shower products of course! We were guided back to the spa reception where we were treated to local Balinese tea and French macaroons – another example of that perfect balance of both countries!
A visit to Mango Tree Spa by L’Occitane is an absolute must for anyone visiting Bali. You’ll be blown away by the service, the views and your massage. For more information and booking check out their website.
