Set high up in the jungle, and only a 10 minute drive from Ubud centre, is one of the most serene properties we’ve ever visited! Sunset Hill is the best Ubud hotel with a view, and perfect for couples or honeymooners.
When we arrived earlier this week I was shocked how secluded the hotel felt given how close we were to the city. It was the best of both worlds! Renting a scooter from the hotel also allowed us to easily explore the area (which is filled with great restaurants and scenic lookouts!).
We stayed in the Maharani Suite which is the hotel’s largest room. It’s located on the ground floor and has direct access to the pool. When they told me the room was big I never expected it to be that big.
The room had a gorgeous king sized bed with a view of the jungle, and just off the bedroom was a sitting room and a sun deck – both with jungle views. Behind the bedroom was a long corridor that made the room feel even more spacious. Down the hall was a dressing room that put most walk-in closets to shame! Plenty of room to store our suitcases.
The bathroom in the Mahanrani Suite has two parts. The indoor area has a sink and vanity. I loved having a dedicated area to get ready before going out for dinner and absolutely loved the beautiful furniture here.
The outdoor area has a shower, toilet and bathtub. All of it was completely outdoors but the fencing and surrounding trees gives you plenty of privacy. The bathtub was amazing with a cool jungle view!
One of the highlights of Sunset Hill Ubud (other than the amazing rooms!) is the infinity pool overlooking the valley. Lush tropical trees as far as the eye can see! The pool has a good number of sun loungers so we never had to worry about finding a free set of chairs.
The hotel has a onsite spa as well. The treatment room is beautiful and the bathtub for body treatments is unlike any I’ve ever seen. The huge tub is surrounded by frosted glass panels and looks particularly radiantly with the afternoon sun.
The brand new restaurant at the hotel has a great selection of Indonesian and Western dishes. The food is freshly made with local ingredients and everything is a very reasonable price. The mie goreng in particular was my favourite!
Breakfast is also available at the hotel, and it is delicious. The stunning view of the valley and a cup of coffee in hand is the perfect way to start your day in Ubud. Just be warned that the view is so amazing that it might be hard to leave!
Sunset Hill is located just a 10 minute drive (or 20 minute walk) from Ubud centre. It’s an easy ride on a scooter, or an affordable taxi ride. Not only does this location give you a relaxing retreat at the end of a long day sightseeing, but it’s also located right on the famous Campuhan Ridge Walk.
You can take this walk all the way into Ubud or you can use it as a bit of morning exercise. Either way, the walk is stunning and famous for a reason! The landscape was incredible and having this right at our doorstep was a great asset.
