For our first three nights in Brisbane we needed a hotel that was affordable, central and spacious. Since we were moving from Sydney to Brisbane we knew we’d have a fair amount of luggage with us; and we also knew that those first three days would be filled with apartment viewings and a ton of running around.
We settled on Meriton Serviced Apartments Brisbane (Adelaide Street) because of it’s location. This hotel is on Adelaide Street (they have two locations in Brisbane) which meant we were a less than a 10 minute walk from the heart of the CBD, about a 2 minute walk from the boardwalk that runs along the river, AND less than 5 minutes from the financial district and all of the amazing cafes and lunch spots that surround the office buildings.
The awesome location meant we were able to walk everywhere, even though there were plenty of bus options right outside our front door. On the rare occasion that we did take a taxi it was really cheap since we never had far to go.
Hotel rooms don’t seem to be all that common in Brisbane, with most hotels offering serviced apartments instead. The Meriton is a perfect example of this. Our “room” was a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, spacious bathroom and ensuite laundry. Although it included more space that the average traveller would need, it was perfect for us. The only downside to the room was the slightly uncomfortable bed. Two single beds pushed together to make a king bed is never comfortable….
With a major grocery store just a 5 minute walk away we took advantage of the kitchen and ate most of our morning meals in the hotel room. The kitchen came with everything you’d need to cook dinner, but we opted for nearby restaurants instead of cooking at the end of the day.
The hotel also had a decent gym and an indoor pool. I took full advantage of these amenities as soon as we arrived, finding a workout and a quick swim to be the best way to relax after 4 long days of travel to get to Brisbane.
The staff at the hotel were both accommodating and welcoming, and they met all our requests promptly. The bell boy didn’t even miss a beat when we told him we have two trolly’s worth of luggage to carry up! Our room was cleaned daily (including the dishes I left in the sink – how embarrassing) and the Peter Morrissey toiletries, dish soap and laundry detergent were restocked daily.
The only thing I can’t comment on is the views. Most rooms have awesome views of the city skyline or the river, but we missed out on this. We arrived nearly 5 hours before check-in time and I was so desperate for a warm shower and a real bed after camping for four days that we accepted an early check-in for a room on the 4th floor. Although this really was the best option for us I am super envious of the Instagram pictures I saw of other people’s views!
