Hotel Review: Willow Tree Estate

The perfect weekend in Hunter Valley requires the perfect hotel. One that’s close to all the wineries and award-winning restaurants, yet far enough away to truly feel like a tranquil retreat.

I discovered that Willow Tree Estate is the best of both worlds. This luxury estate has only 8 rooms, so it has a very exclusive feel to it. It’s located on a sprawling property with panoramic views of Hunter Valley. The property is so photogenic that it’s a local hotspot for wedding photography! If it’s pretty enough for someone’s wedding pictures, then it’s definitely up to my standards for a weekend escape.

Another luxury of staying at this smaller, boutique hotel is the exceptional service you receive. With only an exclusive number of guests permitted each weekend you’re guaranteed to be spoiled by the attentive staff who go out of their way to always ensure you’re being well taken care of.

There’s a wide range of room options, including rooms in the main house, a terrace suite and one stand-alone room out in the garden. We stayed in the Der Rosenkavalier room which had the most beautiful bed and a balcony overlooking the yard. The small table and chairs made this the perfect place for a glass of wine before dinner. We were lucky enough to see kangaroos hopping around the property from our balcony!

Breakfast was served daily in the dining room. The selection was excellent and the food was always fresh. On our first night we ordered take away from a nearby restaurant and ate it on the terrace while watching the sun set over the neighbouring wineries.  It was the perfect start to a romantic weekend in Hunter Valley, and the tranquil setting was also very relaxing.

Between visits to nearby wineries we spent time relaxing by the pool that overlooked the grounds. Having a pool at a hotel in Hunter Valley is a huge bonus, since summer temperatures can skyrocket. The property is quite massive with various sitting areas as well. We never had trouble finding a private area to sit outside.

I’d recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway or a girls weekend trip. The luxury boutique feel and the incredible location make this the ideal place to call “home” for a few days in Hunter Valley. Trust me, once you check in you won’t want to leave!
