For my recent weekend in Toronto I was looking for a new and exciting way to see Toronto. Bus tours are not for me, and I didn’t want to waste my afternoon seeing the same old sights I see all the time. When I stumbled upon Segway of Ontario (now known as Go Tours Canada) I knew I had found my perfect match!
Go Tours Canada offers 30 and 60 minute tours around Toronto’s Distillery District on Segways. That’s right – Segways! I’ve always wanted to try a Segway, especially after seeing customs agents zip around airports on them. The Distillery District is one of Toronto’s coolest neighbourhoods. There’s a ton of history, but you’re also surrounded by picturesque buildings, great shopping and some amazing restaurants. With tours starting at just $40 this is a very affordable way to add some serious fun to your Toronto vacay!
Our adventure started with a quick lesson on how to stand, ride and stop on a Segway. Being the terrible driver that I am, I was a little nervous about riding a Segway. All of my fears instantly vanished when our awesome tour guide Aaron showed us just how easy it was. The Segways go 10 km/hr, or as Aaron referred to it: “a dangerous brisk walking pace”.
After the easiest driving test of my life (and probably the only one I passed with ease), we were ready to start our tour. Aaron took us around the neighbourhood, stopping to point out historic parts I’ve never noticed in my half dozen previous trips to this area. He told us hilarious stories of the drunks who lived here in the early 1800’s. If not for the awesome Segway experience, take this tour for Aaron’s comedic approach to Toronto history!
Our thirty minutes of fun was over before we knew it, but the good times and our cheerful moods carried on into the night! As a travel blogger I’ve done more than my share of tours and all things touristy, but Segway of Ontario takes the top prize for most fun at a tour. Riding a Segway is so exciting, and the experience is even better when you have a fun-loving tour guide to show you the ropes.
Interested in booking your own tour? Head to their website for more info! Don’t have anyone to go with you? Contact me and I just might join you – I’m dying to try this again! Other tour options include a nighttime ghost tour and an off-roading adventure tour at Horseshoe Valley.
